Marilyn L. Robinson is an award winning, self taught, abstract and collage artist, located in St. Louis County, Missouri. She creates contemporary, mixed-media abstract artworks, in addition to "limited edition" prints of her original fine art photography and collages. Most of her artworks are on canvas. Five of her collages were selected, from her "Females:Dimensions in Black" series, to be exhibited in Art St. Louis' prestigious 2023 Honors Exhibition.
Inspired by her extensive travel experiences, sociology/anthropology studies, and deep appreciation of her own heritage, Robinson is particularly inspired by the artistry and beauty of New Orleans, African, and Caribbean cultures. The artistry of her eclectic, stylized, multi-dimensional artworks, illustrate her fascination with the "incredible complexity" and "spiritual beauty", of contemporary cultures that have emerged from African and Caribbean ancestry. The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, purchased two of artworks, from her "Black Indians of New Orleans" Series, for their permanent collection.
Robinson is also passionate about capturing the complex beauty of nature in many of her art. This passion is reflected in her artistic use of vibrant colors and techniques that dramatize the unique beauty of flora and butterflies, which she often incorporates into many of her complex, mixed-media, collages and abstracts. Her cultural composition collage artworks, not exclusively, but generally, focus on featuring the distinctively diverse beauty, and expansive dimensions of Ancient and Contemporary females of African heritage.
Always exploring new artistic techniques, Robinson literally captures the imagination of art lovers as they enjoy, and attempt to understand aspects of the various innovations she uses to create her unique mixed-media abstracts and collages.
