"The West End Drug Store": Pine Bluff, AR

"The West End Drug Store". My grandfather, Dr. W. E. O'Bryant, opened this retail pharmacy in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1911, a year after he graduated with from Meharry School of Pharmacy, in Nashville, TN, in 1910. Quite an achievement for a poor African American male during those years. I was told that "the family slipped away from the plantation in Louisiana, in the still of the night" and migrated north to Masonville, Arkansas. I also have a photo of the O'Bryant U.S. Post Office in Masonville. My family evidently, was quite entrepreneurial.
Limited Edition prints are available on paper or canvas. Proceeds from any sales will be donated to his Alma Mater in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he earned his bachelor's degree. Formally known as "Branch Normal College", then AM&N College, currently UAPB. University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He also served as President of the Alumni Association for 50 years. The Bell Tower, in the middle of the campus is named after him. "The Dr. W. E. O'Bryant Bell Tower".
